Wheel Repair.
Wheel losing pressure? It could be a cracked alloy, a puncture or a leaking valve. Speak to Pure Auto Design near York and Harrogate to arrange an inspection and find the right solution.
A cracked wheel.
A clear way forward.
Concerned about a crack in your alloy wheel? Pure Auto Design provides alloy wheel crack repair assessments at our workshop in Kirk Hammerton, between York and Harrogate.
The first step is to establish the extent of the damage. Our team considers the crack’s position, the condition of the wheel and any previous repairs before advising whether welding or replacement is appropriate.
You do not need to remove the wheel or photograph a crack before contacting us. If the wheel is still fitted and the tyre keeps losing pressure, call our team to discuss an inspection. Final repair suitability can only be confirmed after a physical inspection.
Is your alloy
wheel cracked?
An impact with a pothole or kerb can damage a wheel. A hairline crack may be hidden on the inner rim, out of view while the wheel is fitted to the car. If you keep topping up the same tyre, the source of the leak needs investigating rather than assuming it is another puncture.
A cracked wheel needs professional assessment before further use. Contact us to discuss inspection and suitable transport arrangements.
Repeated pressure loss
A tyre that keeps losing pressure needs investigation. A crack is one possible cause, alongside a puncture, valve fault or bead leak.
Visible damage after an impact
A split, fracture or damaged rim should be inspected, even if the tyre appears to be holding pressure.
Vibration or a distorted rim
Vibration can have several causes. We can discuss wheel inspection and whether our wheel straightening service is relevant.
From assessment
to the right solution.
We explain the recommended work and quote before proceeding. The repair route depends on the individual wheel and the damage found during inspection.
-
Inspect
Assess the crack, surrounding metal, wheel condition and any evidence of previous repairs. Tyre removal may be needed to reveal the damage.
-
Advise
Confirm whether a repair is appropriate and explain the cost and expected turnaround. If replacement is preferable, we will discuss your options.
-
Repair
For wheels accepted for repair, prepare the affected area and carry out the agreed alloy wheel welding work. Additional refurbishment is quoted separately where needed.
-
Check
Inspect the completed work and confirm the agreed finishing and tyre-fitting requirements before arranging collection.
Not every crack
should be repaired.
Crack location, severity, distortion and previous damage all affect the recommendation. A weld repair is not a guarantee of the wheel’s original strength or future service life.
Where damage makes a wheel unsuitable for repair, replacement is the appropriate route. We can help you explore available replacement alloy wheels.
Honest advice on suitability
Photographs help us understand your enquiry, but they cannot confirm the condition of the whole wheel or replace a workshop inspection.
A quote for your wheel
Pricing depends on the damage and the work required. We confirm the quotation and timing after assessment, including any additional tyre work or refinishing.
Our replacement wheel policy
We do not sell crack-repaired alloy wheels. Repairing a customer’s own wheel after assessment is separate from the wheels we offer for sale.
Losing pressure?
Start with a call.
You do not need to find the crack yourself. Tell us how quickly the tyre loses pressure, whether you have hit a pothole and whether any puncture or valve checks have already been carried out.
We will discuss an inspection and the next steps. Let us know whether you have the car with you or a loose wheel, so we can advise on appointment arrangements.
Already have photos of visible damage? You can email them for an initial discussion.

Cracked alloy wheel
repair FAQs.
Can you help if the wheel is still fitted to my car?
Yes. You do not need to remove the wheel or locate a crack before contacting us. Call our team to discuss the pressure loss and arrange an inspection. Tell us whether you have the car or a loose wheel so we can advise on appointment and transport arrangements.
Can a cracked alloy wheel be repaired?
Some cracked alloy wheels may be suitable for welding after inspection. The crack’s location, extent of damage, wheel condition and previous repairs all affect the decision. If repair is unsuitable, we will advise replacement.
How much does alloy wheel crack repair cost?
The cost depends on the damage and the work required. Call us to discuss the symptoms and arrange an assessment; we confirm repair suitability and a quotation after inspection. Any additional tyre work or refurbishment will be explained in the quote.
How long does a crack repair take?
Turnaround depends on the wheel’s condition, any additional work and workshop availability. We confirm the expected timing when we assess and quote for your wheel.
Can I drive with a cracked alloy wheel?
A cracked wheel needs professional assessment before further use, even if the tyre appears to hold pressure. Contact us to discuss inspection and suitable transport arrangements.
Can a crack cause a slow puncture?
A crack can allow air to escape, but pressure loss can also come from the tyre, valve or bead seal. An inspection is needed to identify the cause.
Do you offer mobile cracked alloy wheel repairs?
This service is assessed for work at our workshop near York and Harrogate. Our mobile alloy wheel repair service covers cosmetic and selected diamond-cut work; contact us to discuss the right service for your damage.
What is the difference between a cracked and a buckled wheel?
A cracked wheel has a fracture in the metal. A buckled wheel is bent or distorted. A wheel may have both types of damage, so inspection determines whether welding, straightening or replacement is appropriate.
Is crack repair the same as cosmetic refurbishment?
No. Cosmetic refurbishment addresses the finish and surface damage. A crack in the metal requires a separate assessment for welding or replacement; filler, polishing and repainting do not resolve a structural crack.
Is a cracked alloy wheel an MOT failure?
Yes. The DVSA MOT inspection manual classifies any fracture or welding defect on a wheel as a dangerous defect. An MOT pass is not a guarantee that a repair is suitable; a suspected crack still needs professional assessment.
Can you refurbish the wheel as well?
We offer powder coating and diamond-cut refurbishment for suitable wheels. If additional refinishing is required or requested, we will discuss suitability and quote for it separately.
